Journal #1 Writing Experiences &&& Goals

I have had some writing experiences in the past. When I had to write stories for my english classes to research papers for science and persuasive writing essays for social studies. I had experienced varieties of writing material including poems or random stories. I enjoy writing stories. I can express myself through the words. For example, if i was angry i would write scary stories and if i were happy i would write a comedy. Sometimes i lose myself when i write... escaping reality to a place where anything can happen. My writing goals, is to build up my vocabulary, more descriptive, and to be more creative. I believe having more descriptive and big words can make my stories more interesting. It is always better to improve.

Hi Maddie,

You have a very interesting blog site. Is that picture really of your house in Texas? You have good goals—strong description and good word choice (not necessarily big words, though) will always help to improve writing.

Here are my comments on your writing pre-assessment: This is a touching description of your mother’s funeral. The contrast of the beautiful day and your emotions create a strong backdrop for the action. The sequencing works well…the foreshadowing at the beginning, the revelation that it is your mother who has died, the uplifting conclusion where you realize “she will always be watching me from above.” (I am sorry to hear about your mom’s death…this sounds as if it happened fairly recently…)

For your idea bank: Your idea bank contains lots of emotions that you have felt in various situations. It would be more useful if it also contained more specific detail about those situations (people involved, places, actions, etc)
